large brick red flower above mid green foliage broadly margined with cream, found at Beth Chatto’s Nursery
Description
Pulmonaria (Lungwort)
Family : Boraginaceae
The common name comes from the spotted oval leaves of P. officinalis which were thought to symbolize diseased, ulcerated lungs, and so were used to treat pulmonary infections. These early season perennials mix attractive foliage with free flowering to give excellent plants for shady or half sun positions in moisture areas in the garden. Excellent mixed with spring flowering bulbs under shrubs and open woodland settings.
